FRAYER, Donald Lauren, AB LR III, 2809, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of Lauren W. and Nora Grace Frayer, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Able Seaman Frayer died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.
Able Seaman Donald Lauren Frayer son of Mr. and Mrs. Lauren W. Frayer, 3361 West Tenth Avenue, Vancouver, was another Vancouver seaman who escaped death in the sinking of HMCS Fraser. He was later to be killed when HMCS Margaree was sunk. He joined the Navy at Esquimalt in 1937, as a boy of 17. His first ship was HMCS Fraser. He also served aboard HMCS Assiniboine and later on HMCS Ottawa. Donald attended Kitailano High School. He was born in Vancouver. (Transcribed from article below)
