In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SEMPLE, Robert George - originally from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, born in 1937, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026.
After graduating from high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served proudly for 39 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his distinguished career, he served as a United Nations peacekeeper and spent part of his service in the Middle East. His postings took him to many places, including NORAD in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as well as Ottawa, Ontario; Vancouver Island, British Columbia; Toronto, Ontario; and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In his retirement, he enjoyed curling, golfing, and woodworking, and ran a very successful bed-and-breakfast with his wife, Joan. He also traveled extensively throughout the eastern United States following the NASCAR circuit, a passion he greatly enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, Robert (Joanne) of Lower Wedgeport, Nova Scotia, their son Ryan (Robyn); and his daughter, Sara Hazel (Robert) of New Hampshire, United States, and their daughter, Mataghen “Mattie” Hazel.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Cooper of the palliative care unit, the nurses of the VON, and all his caregivers, for their compassionate care and support.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth. There will be no formal service; a small family gathering will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of George may be made to the palliative care unit at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, or to the Yarmouth VON. (H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Yarmouth)
