JESSOME, Thomas Hector Sr. - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Hector Jessome Sr., age 70, of Blacketts Lake, Nova Scotia, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, May 18. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Thomas and Florence “Dolice” (MacKinnon) Jessome.

As a young man, Thomas spent many years working on the lake boats before leaving the island to join the Navy. Following his service in the Navy and Air Force, he retired and returned to Cape Breton, where his heart truly belonged. He made the trip home countless times over the years, especially during hunting season.

In 1998, he established Jessome Refrigeration, building the company from the ground up. His unwavering determination, strong work ethic, and wisdom were instrumental in its success. One of his proudest moments was teaching and supporting his son, Thomas Jr., in becoming a Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician. As Jessome Refrigeration grew over the years, Thomas had the opportunity to mentor and work alongside his brother, nephews and grandchildren. He also welcomed Taylor Mills and Jade McPhee to the team, guiding and coaching them as they became integral members of the company.

Thomas loved travelling with his wife whenever he could take a break from work. Together, they visited many places, with their trip to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry being a definite highlight.

Thomas will be deeply missed by his wife, Christine (MacIsaac) Jessome; his children: Nicole Jessome-Clarke (Nathan) and Thomas Jr. Jessome; his stepchildren: Janet Morel (Roger), Angela Gardiner, Amanda Gardiner, Adam Gardiner, and Ashley Brace (Chad); his grandchildren: Tyler, Liberty, Marlecka, Jessie, Julia, “Baby” Thomas, Kayla, Connor, Ava, Charlotte, and Zoey; and his great-grandchildren: Lane, Luke, Loucius, Adalee, Lilianna, and Dayton.

He is also survived by his siblings: Archie Jessome (Gwenna), Lorne Jessome (Theresa), and sister-in-law Wanda Jessome.

His legacy will continue through his children and grandchildren, who he shared his wisdom, kindness, and sense of humor generously with, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Whether through quiet conversations, his guidance, strength, and unwavering devotion helped shape the lives of those he loved, the values he passed down and the strong family bonds he helped create.

Thomas was a proud uncle to seven nephews and, as the family grew, he also cherished his many great-nieces and great-nephews. His Uncle Jimmy Jessome held a special place in his heart. His best buddy was Len Nicholson — or, as some would say, his “partner in crime.”

Besides his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his infant sister, Elizabeth Jessome, and his brother, Murray Jessome.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ICU staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they provided.

In keeping with Thomas’ wishes, cremation has taken place.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, Sydney Mines, with a reception to follow. Words of comfort may be shared with the family by visiting the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home website.

Though his passing leaves an emptiness in the lives of those who loved him, the legacy of memories he created and the love he shared will remain with us forever. (J.M. Jobes Funeral Home)
