In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ROSE, Patricia Elizabeth - passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026 at the age of 77, surrounded by family. She lived a life defined by her own independence, resilience and her extraordinary ability to teach and connect with people from every walk of life.
Growing up in Thunder Bay Ontario (Port Arthur and Fort William), Pat developed the independence and determination that would define her life. As a young woman, Pat was known for her strong work ethic and adventurous spirit.
Pat lived a life defined by service, leadership, and curiosity. After serving in the Navy as a young woman, she began teaching at the remarkable age of 18, starting a career in education that would span decades and touch countless lives. She taught students from Grades 1 through 8 before moving into leadership roles as vice principal and principal with the Lakehead District School Board in Thunder Bay.
Retirement did not slow her down. She continued her work in education with the Ministry of Education as a Supervisory Officer, travelling throughout Northern Ontario to support schools and educators. Her work also gave her the opportunity to travel overseas to China, an experience she greatly valued.
Even
after retiring from the Ministry, Pat’s passion for education and helping
others remained unwavering. She later worked alongside the former Canadian
Prime Minister on an Indigenous education initiative, travelling across
Canada to support teachers, students, and communities. Education was never
simply a career to her — it was her life’s calling. After an
extraordinary 50 years devoted to education, she finally stepped away from
the work she loved so deeply.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Margaret Rose, who helped shape the strength and compassion she carried throughout her life. She leaves behind her loving daughter and best friend, Erin Rose (Mike Touchette), as well as her four siblings, Dan Rose, Valerie Strawson, Sandi Coleman, Charlie Rose and their families. Her memory will also live on in the hearts of the many students, educators, friends, and communities she inspired over five decades in education.
A Service in celebration of Patricia's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026 in the R. Leino Memorial Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Rev. Elizabeth Sipos. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior. (Harbour View Funeral Centre)
