In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HALSTEAD, Wayne Rick Harold - was born in Myrtle Manitoba, the eldest son of Harold and Wilma Halstead (deceased).
Wayne and Patricia Ann Tatem were married in 1964 in Bermuda and are survived by two sons. Bradley Wayne (Alice), grand children Amanda, great grandchildren Kiera and Kaden; Aaron (Kayla), great grandchildren Nolan and Isabella. Richard Scott (Susan) deceased, Cathy, grandchildren Joshua (deceased), Abigail great grandchildren Bentley and Adeline. Grandson Samuel. Survived by brother Jack Thomas Halstead and Janice, Dianne Slobodzian (Bart Slobodzian); Brother Wesley Dale (deceased); numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 25 years 1959-1983. He joined as a Radio Man Special which became Comm Rsch 291. He served at HMCS Glouchester, NRS Aklavik, CFS Inuvik (3x), HMCS Buckingham, CFS Bermuda (2x), CFS Alert (4x), CFS Coverdale, CFS Masset, retiring at CFB Kingston in 1983. Wayne always said that he worked with the finest group of men a man could ever hope for. Friends Forever. After retirement Wayne worked in Corrections until 2001.
A gifted athlete, he was a member of several championship teams. Namely Baseball/Fastball and Curling. He also played Football, did some Boxing and Golfed. His understanding wife of 61 years, spent a lot of time alone minding the children while Wayne was away pursuing his passions.
Wayne asked that all the doctors in his care be thanked for their outstanding care and compassion. In particular, Dr. Ken Pritchard, Dr. Siemans and all the great Dr’s. & Nurses who helped look after Wayne.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, Internment at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens.
