In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HEIGHTON, Eric William - It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Eric William Heighton at home on October 10, 2026, at the age of 67.
Eric is lovingly remembered by his wife, Maxine Heighton; his daughters, Michelle and Marci; his son, Billy Gammon; and his grandchildren, Keandre Jollimore, Bryton Gammon, and Baylee Gammon.
He is also survived by his loving parents, Aubrey and Mildred Heighton of Cape John; his brothers, Daryl, Alan, and Lorne; his sister, Cindy Graham; his many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Patsy Jollimore.
Eric proudly served 23 years in the Royal Canadian Navy as a diesel engineer, a career he took great pride in. His love of mechanics, his strong work ethic, and his dedication to his duties were a reflection of the man he was. His years of service brought him not only a sense of accomplishment but also lifelong friendships and a brotherhood that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Eric was immensely proud of his military service and the lifelong friendships he formed throughout his years in the Canadian Armed Forces. The bond he shared with his military brothers was something truly special, built on loyalty, respect, and an unbreakable sense of brotherhood. Over the years, their friendship and support never wavered. Their visits meant the world to Eric, and he knew that all he ever had to do was ask, and they would be there in a heartbeat, ready to lend a helping hand in any way they could. Eric treasured these friendships and the closeness they shared, and he remained proud to be part of that military family throughout his life.
One of Eric's proudest moments was learning that his grandson, Bryton Gammon, would be following in his footsteps by joining the Canadian Armed Forces. Knowing that his grandson had chosen to carry on the family's tradition of military service filled Eric with tremendous pride and joy. It was a special moment he held close to his heart.
Eric's garage was his pride and joy, a place where he loved spending his days surrounded by his tools, his memories, and Maggie. Although he no longer had the use of his hands, his mind remained as sharp as ever. Everything in Eric's garage had its own special place, and he knew exactly where every tool and every item belonged. If you borrowed something, you made sure to put it back exactly where you found it, and if you dirtied the floor, you swept it. Those were Eric's rules, and everyone knew them! Anyone needing advice or help with a problem knew they could turn to Eric. All they had to do was ask, and he would know just what needed to be done. Some of his happiest moments were spent in his garage with his Maggie by his side, watching television and enjoying each other's company. It was his special place, and Maggie was always right there with him.
Eric took great pride in his home and the beautiful yard he loved so much. His fruit trees and trout pond were especially dear to him, bringing him countless hours of enjoyment and peaceful moments surrounded by nature. He loved watching everything grow and flourish, and he knew every corner of his property. His yard was more than just a place to enjoy the outdoors; it was a reflection of his love for nature, his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, and the pride he took in the home he cherished.
Eric was also an avid NASCAR fan who loved the excitement of racing. He especially enjoyed his trips to New Hampshire International Raceway, where he had the pleasure of attending races on four occasions. One of his most treasured memories was having the opportunity to meet NASCAR legend Tony Stewart, an experience he never forgot.
A very special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rob Bush for his extraordinary kindness, compassion, and dedication to Eric's care. His willingness to make house calls, his attentiveness to Eric's needs, and the genuine concern he showed for his well-being went far beyond what anyone could have asked for. He was not only a wonderful physician but also a source of comfort and reassurance throughout the years. His kindness and unwavering commitment to Eric will always be remembered and deeply appreciated by our family.
We are very thankful to Eric's caregivers, Sandra and Trish, for all the care and kindness they showed Eric.
