Michael Ring - Able Seaman
Alvin Michael Ring was born in Regina on November 6, 1925. He attended
Wetmore Elementary School and joined the Sea Cadets while still there.
He attended Balfour Technical High School and was active in the Drama
and Musical Glee clubs. While still in high school he started an apprenticeship
with the National Cash Register Company. After completing grade 12, Al
worked there until he joined the navy at H.M.C.S. Queen, in Regina. He
took his training at H.M.C.S. Cornwallis. After the war Al returned to
his job with the National Cash Register Company. He married Minerva Bandas
at St. Matthews Church in Regina on April 27,1946. They bought a house
in St. Mary's Anglican Parish in 1951 and Al faithfully served on the
vestry as Sidesman and Properties Chairman until his passing. His family
have dedicated a small window at St. Mary's, which includes a white naval
ensign, crown and anchor and an eagle in flight in reference to Isaiah,
Chapter 40 verses 27 to 31. Al left National Cash Register and was employed
by the City Parkade of Toronto, working in Regina and Vancouver as Divisional
Manager. Al had a special gift of a positive outlook on life, helping
people. Min and Al were married for 43 years. Al passed away the week
following their anniversary.
