Robert
Munnings - Lieutenant
Robert (Bob) Munnings was born in Toronto in 1923. He attended schools
in the area and married Anne Wolansky in 1942. Bob joined the navy as
a seaman in October 1942 and trained at Cornwallis. He became an Officer
candidate in June 1943, graduating from "Kings" and joined HMCS Rosthern. He was posted to the Nene in June 1944 and following cessation
of activities in Europe returned to Halifax in June 1945. Bob was reappointed
to St. Boniface as Exec. Officer, briefly acting as C.O. in Jan. 1946.
He returned to civilian life to join the family business, Iseco Safety
Shoes. Bob and Anne's daughter Maurita and husband Dr. Doug Hayhoe, educators,
do part-time mission work with youth and the needy in South America. Son
Donald and wife Becky, general surgeon and nurse, practice in Missauga
and volunteer for mission medical work in Africa. Son Randy and wife Anne,
business specialist, is taking over from Bob in the family business. Anne
and Bob have 11 grandchildren. Bob and Anne are involved in the Yonge
Street Evergreen Mission, Genesis Place, Shantymen International -- working
with street youth and native people. Bob is on the board of the Industrial
Accident Assoc. and a member of the Cdn. & American Society of Safety
Engineering. Bob was a member of the RCN Historical Conference in Halifax
in 1985.
