Rotenberg - Telegraphist
Robert Rotenberg was born in Toronto on September 20, 1921. He was educated
at Harbord Collegiate and Forest Hill High School. Bob obtained his second
class radio license and joined the civil service (Department of Transport)
in the aviation section. He was shipped out west to Calgary airport. Despite
the fact his service was classified essential, he received a draft notice.
Indicating to officials that he wanted to join the navy, within 48 hours
he was enlisted. Following his return from service aboard the Nene he
returned home, and in 1947 Bob and Taschia Waxman were married. They have
a son, Lorne, and a daughter, Lynne. In 1948 Bob opened his own furniture
retail company and operated it until 1965. At that point he went to work
as a sales representative for several Canadian furniture companies. His
son joined him in the sales agency. Bob retired March 1, 1992 and turned
the operation over to his son and son-in-law. He has been active in local
charities in the past and sits on several committees at his local golf
course.
