Alfred
J. Levesque - Leading Seaman
Alfred J. Levesque was born in Hull, Quebec on May 1, 1922. He attended
school in Ottawa and joined the navy in 1939. He served on four different
ships during the war, HMCS Melville (minesweeper), HMCS Snowberry (Corvette),
HMCS Skeena (Destroyer), HMCS Nene (River Class Frigate). He was married
in 1942 to Stella Morel and has one son Ray, Vice President, Cadillac
Fairview Construction Company. His wife passed away in 1968 and Fred remarried
Jacqueline Hotte. Jackie has three daughters and a son and Fred and Jackie
are the proud grandparents of 10 grandchildren. Fred continued his career
in the navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class, following cessation of the war
as a gunnery instructor at HMCS Carleton (Ottawa). Fred retired from the
navy in 1960 and continued his career as a fireman with the Ottawa Fire
Department attaining the rank of Captain. He retired in 1982 after 35
years service, and he and Jackie continue to live in Ottawa. Fred especially
enjoys fishing during the summer and ice fishing in the winter. He spends
hours on his garden, growing a great profusion of colourful flowers. Jackie
and Freddie also enjoy travelling, having visited Eygpt and Israel. Many
of their winters are spent on some island of the Caribbean, and they enjoy
one of the Nene's favourite ports Hamilton, Bermuda.
