Louis Dubroy - Stores
John Louis Dubroy was born in Ottawa, February 14, 1921. He attended Lasalle
Academy and joined the navy in 1942. Lou took a stores course in Halifax.
He served aboard HMCS Fort William, Puncher and the Nene. While he
was on the Puncher, it moved from Seattle, through the Panama Canal and
made runs to the Mediterranean and the Bay of Biscay, supplying troops
in North Africa and bringing out the wounded. Lou took his discharge in
1946 and worked for the federal government in the pension section of the
Department of Veterans Affairs. In 1952, Lou and Jean Thaxter were married.
Jean served in the WRENS from 1942 to 1946, in the Postal Group in Canada,
London, England and HMCS Niobe. In 1954 Lou reenlisted in the RCN and
served seventeen years on the east and west coasts aboard HMCS Lauzon,
Bonaventure, Magnificent, and Cape Scott as a Petty Officer Supply. He
took his discharge at Gloucester Communications on it closure in 1971.
Lou continued in the Civil Service for eight years as a supply technician
at Canadian Forces Base, Uplands. Jean and Lou enjoy bowling, curling
and travel. They have attended all Briar and World Broom Curling in Canada
and overseas since 1977.
