RUSSELL, Roy Muir - 72, Hilden, Colchester County, died August 19, 1993, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Hilden, he was a son of the late Muir and Hannan (Burris) Russell. He was a resident of Hilden for the last 10 years and before retirement, he was employed with General Motors for 30 years as service manaager. He was a member of the United Church of Canada and the Truro Fire Brigade. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy overseas and with the escort service. He retired from the service with the rank of Chief Stoker. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro and an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Winnifred (Freddie) Bowers; son, Kenneth, Masstown; daughter, Valerie, Halifax; two sisters, Helen Angevine, Falmouth; Jean MacKenzie, East Stoneham, Me.; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Winnie, Elsie; stepmother, Hattie Phillips. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro, Rev. M.H.C. MacDonald officiating. Family flowers only. Roy had been drafted to SPIKENARD. The day it had left on its final journey Roy arrived to see SPIKENARD sailing out of harbour. He then got drafted to to ASSINIBOINE. (Submitted by Roy's friend, Ross Gordon)
Roy's sister Elsie Russell was a Wren in the WRCNS.
