Died: 25 Oct 2012, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

 

CHING, George Allan - It is with great sadness that the Ching family announce the passing of our treasured husband, father, Grandad and Great-Grandad at the Dartmouth General Hospital on October 25, 2012. Born in Brampton, Ontario on December 22, 1929, he was the son of the late George Ernest and Myrtle (nee Marshall) Ching. George is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary (Leahy); children, George Jr. (Pauline Thornham), Brampton, ON; Kathryn (Paul) Higgins, Brampton, ON; Shelagh Wolfe, Dartmouth, NS; Geoffrey (Sharon), Erin, ON; grandchildren Stephanie, Andrew (Jaimie) and Colleen Wolfe, Christina (Adam) Kimont, Emily Ching (Michel Carpentier) and Sarah Ching; great grandsons Tyler Wolfe and Caleb Kimont. George is also survived by his sisters Florence (John) Bozyk, Ancaster, ON; Donna (Ronald) Leckie, Sundre, AB; Lorna (the late James) Pollard, Brechin, ON; Mary's siblings Marg (Reg) Harper; Betty (Clyde) Sampson; Bill (Helen) Leahy; many nieces and nephews from across Canada. George was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 25 years, having served in the Korean War. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed with the Province of Ontario for 20 years before retiring to Nova Scotia. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Shrine, the Korea Veterans' Association, the Chiefs and PO's Association, and the Royal Canadian Legion. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 31, 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm with a Masonic Service at 7 pm (all welcome), at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, NS. Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 1 at 2 pm, at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be in Brampton, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Naval Memorial Trust - HMCS Sackville, PO Box 99000, Stn. Forces, Hfx. NS B3K 5X5 or to a charity of your choice.
