John Herbert Ross

ROSS, John Herbert - 77 of 373 Lincoln St., Lunenburg, died December 10, 1992, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Oldham, Lancastershire, England, he was a son of the late Hebert and Agnes (Smith) Ross. He was educated in Halifax at St. Patrick's School, HMC Dockyard and Nova Scotia Technical College. He served 28 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. During the Second World War, he served convoy duty in the North Atlantic, retiring from the navy with the rank of commander. He then moved to Lunenburg where he was employed as plant manager with Atlantic Bridge Company. After retiring in 1977, he remained active with Lunenburg Board of Trade, was past president of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Navy League of Nova Scotia. He was a member of Royal Canadian Naval Officer's Association and was actively involved in community activities in Lunenburg. He is survived by his wife, the former Catherine E. Prendergast; three daughters, Jacqueline Vandenberg, Victoria, B.C.; Maureen (Mrs. James Betts), Halifax; Rosemary (Mrs. Wayne Mosher), Lunenburg; three sons, Philip, Kelowna, B.C.; John F., Martins Brook; Paul, Rothesay, N.B.; eight grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; two brothers, James, Detroit, Mich.; Philip, St. Stephen, N.B.; sister, Marie D'Eon, Ketch Harbour. He was predeceased by a brother, George; two sisters, Eileen, Patricia; granddaughter, Catherine Margaret. The body is in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral will be 2 p.m Monday in St. Norbert's Roman Catholic Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Joe MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Family flowers only.
