James Robert (Jim) Tanner

 

Born: 26 Feb 1924, Niagara Falls, Ontario 

 

Died: 14 Jul 2019, Pembroke, Ontario

 

TANNER, James Robert - of Deep River died peacefully Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Miramichi Lodge at age 95. Jim was born in Niagara Falls on February 26, 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 as a sailor aboard the destroyer Chaudiere, and also served at Juno Beach. After the war, he received his Engineering degree from University of Toronto. He married Marie (nee MacGarvie) in 1951. He worked for AECL as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1985, after which he and Marie enjoyed travelling. Jim kept very active with golf, X-country skiing, and sailing on the Ottawa River. Jim will be sadly missed by Marie, his wife of 67 years, his daughter Janice, his sons David (Cathy), and Jamie (Kathy), grandchildren Nathan Reyes, Maggie Reyes, Brennan Tanner (Amber and three children), Garnet Tanner, and William Tanner, two brothers Jack Tanner (Betty) and David Tanner, and cousin Betty Yannet. Funeral Services will be held at Deep River Community Church on Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m., followed by reception at the Deep River Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson's Society or Miramichi Lodge would be gratefully appreciated. (Niagara This Week 20 Jul 2019)
