John William Melville (Mel) Pratt

Born: 1924, Regina, Saskatchewan

 

Died: 1999

 

PRATT, John William Melville (Mel) - Mel was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1924. He enlisted in WWII with the Navy at Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1941. He served aboard the minesweeper HMCS Gananoque, the frigate HMCS Valleyfield and HMCS Matane as Chief Petty Officer and Head Gunner. He saw service in Canada, the North Atlantic, and Europe. He also spent 2 years following WWII training sailors for the Korean War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Vets in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was a member and helped to build Legion Branch 189 Mirror. He passed away in 1999.
