Died: 19 Apr 1988

 

Robert Knowles enlisted on 10 Oct 1939 as an ERA 4c and served until he was demobilized on 22 Oct 1945. He was commissioned as an A/Wt (E) in May 1945.

 

Ships served in:

HMS RAJPUTANA - Served in RAJPUTANA 21 Jul 1940 - 31 Oct 1940 as an ERA 4c, RCNVR.  While ERA Knowles was serving in her, RAJPUTANA escorted the following 3 convoys as convoy escort until the convoy merged with the larger HX convoy.  Convoy BHX.61 - Departed Bermuda 26 Jul 1940 - merged with HX.61 on 31 Jul 1940  // BHF.71 - Departed Bermuda 04 Sep 1940 - merged with HX.71 on 09 Sep 1940  //  BHX.83 - Departed Bermuda 22 Oct 1940 - merged with HX.83 27 Oct 1940

HMCS ST CROIX - Served in ST CROIX 07 Nov 1940 - 11 Nov 1940 as an ERA 4c, RCNVR

HMCS BADDECK - Served in BADDECK 03 Feb 1942 - 05 Apr 1942 as an ERA 3c, RCNVR

HMCS SACKVILLE - Served in SACKVILLE 06 Apr 1942 - 30 Jan 1944 as an ERA 3c and an A/Ch ERA.  Rated A/ Ch ERA 15 Nov 1943.

HMCS JONQUIERE - Served in JONQUIERE 22 Jun 1944 - 24 Jul 1944 as an A/Ch ERA, RCNVR

HMCS FREDERICTON - Served in FREDERICTON 03 Nov 1944 - 15 Feb 1945 as an A/CH ERA and Ch ERA, RCNVR.  Rated Ch ERA 15 Nov 1944

* 01 Jun 1945 - Commissioned from Ranks as an A/WT Engineer, RCNVR
