CHAPMAN, Eugene Arthur (Chap) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Eugene Arthur Chapman age 80 of Amherst on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst with his loving family by his side. Born in Amherst, Eugene was a son of the late Stanley Allen and Amy (Chappell) Chapman. In 1956, Chap proudly joined the Canadian Navy, retiring in 1960 returning home to operate Chapman Brothers Beverages Ltd. for 29 years. A true outdoorsman, Chap enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, snowmobiling as well as playing bridge. He had passion for golfing with family and his many friends, and was a former club champion. Chap and Ginny spent many winters in Florida. A big part of Chap’s life was spending time at his cottage at Seagrove, creating numerous family memories such as bbq’s and gardening. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Executive member of the Amherst golf club, Amherst Curling Club as well as the Duplicate Bridge Club, Aesculapius Fishing Club, and Royal Canadian Legion Br, 10, Amherst. As Mayor of Bilby Island, he coordinated and entertained the annual rabbit feed, kids day, thanksgivings, annual duck hunt, and snowmobiling events. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Ginny (Shay); four children, Allen (Darlene), Lindsay, ON; Chris (Susan), Kelowna, BC; Nancy (Jeff), Lindsay, ON and Kevin (Marla) Saint John, NB; beloved grandchildren, Nick, Sara, Candace, Shelby, Kristy, Lori, CJ, Cameron, Colin, Ashley, and Paige; as well as many great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Chap was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley Joe and Rodger Alan. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (902) 667-9906. A celebration of Life for Eugene will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 1:00 – 4:00pm at the Amherst Golf Club, 487 John Black Road. Memorial contributions in Chap’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Foundation or a charity of your choice.
