James Lloyd (Jim) Lister

Born: 05 Jan 1928, East York, Ontario

 

Died: 06 Oct 2023, Toronto, Ontario

 

LISTER, James Lloyd (Jim) - Member BR22 RCL East York. Passed suddenly Oct 6, 2023 at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in his 95th year. Jim seerved in the RCN aboard HMCS HAIDA from 1947 to 1950 and in the RCN Reserves from 1952-1957.

 

Jim was a longtime member of the RCL BR22 as his own father had been. He was on their executive board and was the recipient of a Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.

 

Jim worked for the City of East York for 35 years. He was a member of the Haida Association and spent many hours volunteering at meetings and galas. He also volunteered as a tour guide on the ship when it was docked at Ontario Place.

 

Jim married Isabella in 1953 and they had 4 children, (Jim, Cathy, Janis, Sue). Their marriage ended in 1976. Jim married Yanko in 1987 and became step father to her 2 children, (Steve and Jenny). He was a grandfather to six and a great-grandfather to one.

 

Jim's love of painting and drawing was a passion in retirement and a daily joy while at Sunnybrook.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Centre for their care, compassion and dedication. A private family service will be held at St. John's Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
