In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MISENER, John Ellwood (Jack) - age 87. Jack left us peacefully, his wife Elenor holding his hand. Jack came to Elliot Lake from southern Ontario in 1957, working underground as a electrician at Nordic, Can-Met, then Denison Mines. Jack also drove taxi, then opened the Dairy Bar, beside the current Standard building. One year operating the Waffle Shop was followed by mines closing. The family moved to Guelph where he and Elenor bought a Convenience Store, later a China and Gifts Shop. Jack has been a painter and decorator, electrician, taxi driver, retail merchant, general contractor, entrepreneur, and security guard, a man of many talents. He is missed by sons Bill Misener (Carol), Jim Misener (Nancy), and daughter Linda Duke (David), 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandkids. We will miss the stories from his Navy days aboard the Algonquin. How he loved to tell his stories! A memorial gathering was held in Guelph May 12, 2012. (The Elliot Lake Standard 23 May 2012)
