Alexander C. (Alex) Anderson

Born: 1923, Winnipeg, Manitoba

 

Died: 2000

 

ANDERSON, Alexander C.  (Alex)  - WWII Veteran. Alexander was born in Winnipeg in 1923. He enlisted in the Navy at HMCS CHIPPAWA, Winnipeg in March 1942. He was discharged at HMCS CHIPPAWA, Winnipeg on November 22, 1945. Alex crossed the North Atlantic twelve times. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the North Atlantic Star Medal and Overseas Bar, the 1939-1945 Star, the Maple Leaf Bar and the King George VI Medal. Alex was a Leading Seaman - Torpedo Man on Minesweepers from Prince Rupert to Homeport, St. John's, NL and from St. John's to Londonderry, Ireland protecting Merchant Ships and destroying German Submarines. Alex was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Winnipeg Beach Branch 61 for nineteen years. He passed away in 2000.
