Died: 27 Mar 2010, Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

SPENCE, Ernest Richard - age 77, of Springhill, passed away peacefully at All Saints Hospital on Saturday, March 27, 2010, following a lengthy illness. Born in Springhill he was a son of the late Harmon and Mary Spence.

 

An avid outdoorsman, Ernest enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, gardening and going for walks. He also enjoyed playing cards, tying flies, building rustic furniture, swimming and painting. He was a long time member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17, Springhill.

 

A loving husband and caring father, Ernest will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Renovia Mae (Wood) Spence of Springhill; one son, Michael (Gail) Spence of Truro; three daughters, Susan (Dan) Mattix, Sherry (Paul) Sampson, both of River Philip, and Virginia (John Burke) Spence of Amherst; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Lois) Spence and Kenneth (Jewel) Spence; one sister, Mona Hannah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Ernest was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Morton; brothers, Junior, Jack, Donald, Mickey and Ernie; sisters, Helen, Mauretta, Evelyn and Frances.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to AH Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St, Springhill (597-2361). Visitation will take place Monday evening from 7-9 pm and Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 1-3 pm followed by a funeral service at 3 pm, Ruth Gamble officiating. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 will hold a legion service Monday evening at 7 pm. Cremation and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date.
