Died: 26 Oct 1967, Southport, Newfoundland

 

AVERY, Josiah - was born October 25, 1892 to William John and Myria Avery in the small fishing village Southport (formerly Fox Harbour), NL. He enlisted with the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve on March 1, 1913. He served overseas with the Royal Navy between 1914 and the fall of 1917 before being granted furlough. He was the assigned to Royal Canadian Navy and served at Halifax until the end of the war. Seaman Avery returned home, married Violet Balsom. They raised their family in Southport, where Josiah passed away on October 26, 1967.

CD-68 - Served in CD-68 27 Nov 1917 - 30 Nov 1918

HMCS NIOBE (Depot Ship Halifax) - Served in Niobe 01 Dec 1918 - 20 Dec 1918

* Returned to the RN 21 Dec 1918
