MEDWICK, Peter - It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter Medwick announce his passing at the age of 97 years, at Hogarth Riverview Manor (TBRHSC Transitional Care Unit). Peter was born and educated in Ignace, ON. He started his career there with CP Rail. He soon after enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve on March 12, 1943 until November 16, 1945 serving on the HMS Sheffield and HMCS Uganda. After the war, he transferred to Thunder Bay to work as a Locomotive Engineer, working 46 years retiring in 1988. When he moved to Thunder Bay he met the love of his life, Barbara Horgos, at the White Lunch Cafe. Peter and Barbara were married for 60 years. They enjoyed doing many things together and with their three children. They wintered for 22 years in Hawaii, with other trips to Florida, Australia and going to Naval reunions across Canada. One of their favourite places to spend time was at their cottage in Ignace. Peter's family was his biggest priority and greatest joy fishing and camping with his daughter Barbara and sons Brian and Barry. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his railroad buddies. Peter was a member of the Ignace Legion and the Slovak Legion. After Barbara's passing in 2014 Peter moved from the family home on Francis Street into the Sister Leila Greco Apartments where he enjoyed living and making many friends. Peter is survived by daughter Barbara Cunningham (John), sons Barry Medwick (Judy), son Brian Medwick, grandchildren Stacey Cunningham, Lucas Cunningham (Kimberley), Michael Medwick, Adam Medwick, great grandchildren Everly and Arthur Medwick, brother-in-law Mike Horgos, brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Janice Horgos, sister-in-law Helen Medwick and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his wife Barbara (2014), parents Michael and Lena Medwick, in-laws Barbara and Michael Horgos, brothers Steven Medwick (Sally), John Medwick (Helen), sister Anne Evanyk (John). Peter's family would like to thank all the staff at Sister Leila Greco for their wonderful care and friendship during his time there. Also to the doctors and nurses at TBRHSC 1A for their care and compassion during his time there and to the nurses and doctors at TBRHSC – TCU during his brief stay there. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions, no service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held in Igance in the Summer. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to St. Joseph's Foundation, Life Enrichment – Sister Leila Greco Apartments. (Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal 20 Feb 2021)
