Died: 18 May 2000, Thunder Bay, Ontario

 

McEWAN, Hugh Patrick (Toddy) - age 76 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died Thursday, May 18, 2000 in TBRH McKellar. Toddy was a lifetime resident of the city and had attended St. Martin's and St. Patrick's High School. He served in the Canadian Navy during World War 2, serving overseas from 1942 until 1945. Upon his return he played hockey for several professional teams in the WHL and AHL returning home to Fort William in 1950. He continued playing hockey and also football for a number of years. He worked at several jobs retiring from Ogilvie's in 1989. Toddy was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fort William Council #1447 and enjoyed the morning coffee at the Columbus Centre. He was a successful part of A.A. for over 35 years. Toddy is survived by his wife Mary (Testori), children, Dave and his wife Barb, Thunder Bay, Brian, Scarborough, Mark and his wife Cindra, Cochrane Alberta, grandchildren, Shanlee, Michael and Steven, brother Bill and wife Mickey, sister-in-law Mary McEwan and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Alice, and brother Jim. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2000 when friends and family will gather for Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. inSt. Dominic's Church celebrated by Rev. Rino Zilliotto c.s. The service will be complete in the Church with final interment to take place at a later time privately for the family. Prayers will be offered on Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire memorials to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Toddy McEwan in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 24, 2001. (Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal 18 May 2000)
