MCLELLAN, Vernon Hibbert  (Bun) - 94, Truro. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bun on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2016 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Wentworth Valley on May 1, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Halliday) McLellan and was the youngest of nine children. Bun went to school in Wentworth Valley until Grade 11 and at the age of 17 he came to Truro to work for CNR for 43 years. He served in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War as a telegrapher on the destroyer HMCS ST CLAIR and the corvette HMCS HUNTSVILLE escorting convoys across the Atlantic. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro. Bun loved to play cards and in his younger days he enjoyed golf, bowling, softball and darts. He is survived by his second wife, Donna (Crowe); son, Philip (Barb); daughters, Joan Frizzell, Gloria (Wayne) McKay, Heather Mingo (David Kontuk), Brenda (Glenn) Perry; step children Nancy Pyke, Jon Morrison and Peter Morrison; grandchildren Scott McLellan (Sherrey Solmonson), Derrick McLellan, Matthew McLellan, Cory Frizzell (Stephanie Morash), Cindy Frizzell (Michael Tattrie), Kim Frizzell (Jim LeBlanc), Shelley Newton (Carson MacDonald), Bradley Mingo (Kristen Moore) and Colby McLellan; 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence (Schnare); brothers, Guy, Frank, John, Ewart, Ernest; sisters, Ella Barclay, Freda Patriquin, Nellie Phillips; infant son, Vernon Wayne; son-in-laws Louis Frizzell and Allen Mingo. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16 beginning at 1pm until time of Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service at 2pm. The Memorial Service and Reception will follow all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Family Interment will take place in Watson Cemetery. Family flowers only; in lieu of flowers, donations in Bun’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 26, Truro.
