ORR, John - With great sadness, we announce the loss of John Orr, a loving companion to the love of his life, Jeannette Smith, of 21 years, a beloved father, grandfather great grandfather, and dear friend. John peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the age of 93. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, but later moved to St. Catharines, Ontario where he lived for the past two and a half decades with his love, Jeannette and their dog, Molly, who never left his side. John was a proud Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy for 20 years where he served in two wars as Chief Petty Officer. He was a Port Dalhousie fixture for many years. He owned the Lions Tavern for 23 years and would often be seen walking his trusted companion, Gunner, along the port pier and the beach, daily. Of all the remarkable things john did in his impressive lifetime, he often recalled his best memories traveling with Jeannette. Along with Jeannette, John is survived by his two children, Wendy Hunter and her husband Charlie Hunter (Calgary, Alberta), Kevin Orr (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan); his grandson Fraser Orr-Brown and his wife Christie Brown (Calgary, Alberta); and his great grandson Emmett Brown. John will be sadly missed by Kim and Paul Racey; Ally and Andrew Chizmadia (in Michigan) as well as Kevin, Tracy, Brody and Nicole Smith (in Canada). John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Orr. "We think about you always, we talk about you still, you have never been forgotten, and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives, until we meet again." Per John's request, there will not be a service. (St. Catharines Standard 21 May 2021)
