BOWNESS, Robert C. (Bob) - 94, of Moncton, with family members at his side, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, June 10, 2013 after a period of failing health. Born in Moncton, Bob was the son of the late Bruce and Emmeline (Constable) Bowness. Bob was a former employee of the T. Eaton Co. Ltd., with 25 years service and Eastern Painters with10 years service. He was a member of Mountain View United Church and a former Church Elder for many years. Bob was a member of Acacia Lodge # 49, F. & A.M., a Life Member and former Treasurer of the Moncton Lions Senior Citizens Club with 15 years service, a former volunteer at The Moncton Hospital, a member of the Eaton’s Quarter Century Club and a member of the Moncton Legion Branch #6. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served with the Royal Canadian Navy overseas from 1942 to 1947. Bob will be sadly missed by his wife of over 68 years, Margaret (Alexander) Bowness; his children, Mary-Joan Sturgeon (Carvell) of Miramichi, Allan (Sue) of Orleans, ON, Nancy Caissie (Georges), Drew and George (Cathy), all of Moncton; eight precious grandchildren; twenty cherished great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Bob was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brothers, James and Harold; sisters, Mary and Jean Noseworthy. Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Moncton Legion Branch #6 Memorial Service on Thursday at 6:30 pm, followed by Acacia Lodge # 49, F. & A.M. Memorial Service at 6:45 pm. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 1:30 pm, with Rev. Mary MacPherson officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. In Bob’s memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
