Born: 06 Jul 1933, London, England

Died: 08 May 2021

SEARLE, Anthony R. (Tony) - was born in 1933 to Laurence and Phyllis in London, England and grew up in Porthcawl, Wales. He moved with his family to Victoria as a teenager. Tony joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1951 and remained enlisted until 1956. He spent most of his life in the Victoria area. Many weekends and summer vacations were spent camping with his family and instilling on his children the skills and values of outdoor stewardship. Later in his life, Tony would take up boating, loving the lines of a classic wooden cruiser. There were about 3 of them; Rowlanda was the last, on which he spent many good years exploring the Gulf Islands with his wife Eileen. His community life included being a cub scout leader, a church member, a member of the Canadian Coast Guard auxiliary, Sooke community theatre and others.

Tony worked for the BC Provincial Government for 29 years, retiring as a Systems Analyst in 1988. To pass the time in his early retirement years he worked for Lumberworld and Butler Brothers in Sooke. He was an avid carver of many curious little figures and an original MacGyver.

Tony remained an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion until his passing.

Tony is predeceased by his wife Eileen; his father, Laurence; his stepfather George, his mother, Phyllis; brothers Christopher and Adrian, and his aunt Eunice. He is survived by his sister Penny, his brother Peter, his children Christopher (Carol), Kevin (Cindy), Owen (Francesca), Karen (Blair), stepdaughter Kristel, nieces, nephews and many grand and great-grand children.

A gathering to remember Tony will be held when circumstances allow.
