BONIFACE, Douglas Victor - Doug passed away peacefully in Campbell River with his family by his side. He will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his wife, Bessie, in 2018 and by his grandson, Robert, in 2019. He is also predeceased by all his siblings Doris, Irene, Bert and Wilf. Born in Victoria, Doug met Bessie and they married in 1948 spending their entire lives in the Victoria area until they moved to Campbell River 5 years ago to be closer to family. Doug joined the Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre from 1943-1945. After the war Doug trained as a shipwright at Yarrows and eventually became a shipwright foreman and dockmaster. After retiring, he loved to go salmon fishing around Victoria and up island. He enjoyed renovating his and his family's homes. Ballroom dancing every Saturday night with Bessie and friends was a ritual until well into his 80's. He walked the chip trail daily around the University into his 90's. Doug was often found at his Shawnigan Lake cabin fixing it up and enjoying Bessie's cooking with friends and family. Doug and Bessie were fortunate to have 70 wonderful years together. Due to Covid, there will be a celebration of life and interment for immediate family only. (Victoria Times Colonist 04 Sep 2021)
