CARNEY, John Joseph - 68, Dartmouth, died January 15, 1994, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Liverpool, England, he was a son of the late John and Kate (Welsh) Carney. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Navy. He later retired from the Royal Canadian Navy after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Chiefs and Petty Officers Association, Halifax. He is survived by his wife, Edna; two sons, Philip, Ottawa; John, Dartmouth; two sisters, Kitty Carney, Joan McGuinness, both of Liverpool; brother, Philip, Liverpool; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Thompson. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 16 Jan 1994 / Researched by George Newbury)
