Gerald Walter (Gerry) Webster

Born: 21 Jul 1919, Netherhill, Saskatchewan

 

Died: 25 May 2011, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

 

WEBSTER, Gerald Walter (Gerry) - Gerry will be remembered by his very special friend Margy McNulty; his sister Joyce (Keith) Allen; and his loving children: Gerry (Gayle), Glenn (Karen), Vern (Cristel) Webster, Holly (late husband Ray) Glow, and Lori (Woodrow) Bruyns; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by Merla, his loving wife of 55 years and his sister June Hearn. Born in Netherhill, SK to Walter and Adele Webster he passed away with his family at his side in Saskatoon. Gerry proudly served in the Navy during WW 11 and was liberated from a POW camp. After the war he took a job with CP Express where he continued to work until he retired in 1979. Gerry excelled in any sport he tried. He is a Saskatoon Sports Hall of Famer for the national accomplishments of the Merchant Softball Team of 1948. He was a repeat Provincial Legion Curling Champion and won the Dominion title in 1958. Services will be held on Monday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Westwood Funeral Chapel, 1402 20th St. W, followed by lunch and then interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. (Woods Funeral Chapel)

 

Ships served in:

HMCS ATHABASKAN - Gerry survived the sinking of HMCS ATHABASKAN G07.  He was rescued / captured by German naval forces and spent the remainder of the war as a POW.
