EBY, Robert Bruce Spencer - On March 18, 2012, Bruce Eby passed away at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his loving wife Betty in 2003 after 54 years of happiness and support. Survived by daughters Collie Wells and Pat Kuefler, son-in-law Felix Kuefler and granddaughter Shayla, brother Douglas (Donna) and family. Born in Edmonton October 19, 1923. Called to active service in the Canadian Navy from April 29, 1943 to November 19, 1945. Commissioning crew in frigate HMCS SAINT JOHN December 1943. Joined Escort Group 9 1944, celebrated 21st birthday in Gibraltar, followed in December by convoy escort to Murmansk and more in-shore anti-submarine work around Great Britain. Met WRCNS Tel S.O. Betty Harris, both on discharge leave, returning home to Edmonton. Married 1949. Employed by Imperial Oil Producing Department November 1947. Earned Alberta Land Surveyor certification May 1960. Work assignments throughout Alberta, north to the Arctic Ocean and east in the Davis Strait. Retired December 1982 and moved to Sidney, B.C. Returned to Edmonton in 2009. Many thanks to the staff of St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital, Rosewood for their care of our Dad in his final days. A life of love and adventure. No Service by request. Cremation has taken place.
