STEVENS, Wilfred James - went home to be with his Lord on August 23, 2021 to be reunited with family who have gone on before, never to part again. Born on Second Peninsula on February 23, 1922, he was the second youngest of the 12 children of Randolph and Evelyn (Slauenwhite) Stevens and was the last surviving member of his family. Always a hard worker, as a young man he worked on the family farm and learned the art of sail making at R. B. Stevens & Sons sail loft. During the Second World War, he served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy. He later attended Commercial School where he took business courses and in 1947 he joined the staff of the Atlantic Bridge Company (ABCO) where he spent most of his career as the Sales Manager. He retired in 1995, in name only as he continued to go to the office several times a week until he was 90. He was a steadfast and a committed member of many community boards and agencies such as Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Centre Consolidated Home and School, Lunenburg Municipal District Fire Commission, Calvary Temple Church, Second Peninsula Cemetery Association and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23. Wilfred was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and yacht racing with his father and brother, David. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn (Harnish) in 2018. Wilfred is survived by son, Gregory Stevens (Katalin); daughter, Sharon (Hayden) Laltoo; grandchildren, Jared (Nicole), Lydia (James), Devin, Reanna (Max); and great-grandchildren, River, Marley and Alistair; daughter-in-law, Sally Deion-Stevens; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to his dedicated caregivers, Judy, Flora, family and friends who enabled him to remain at home until August 9th. Thank you to the caring staff at the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen's Memorial Hospital. Funeral service to celebrate Wilfred’s life will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Dana L.
