William Edward (Ted) Henbrey

Died: 24 Oct 2021, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

 

HENBREY, William Edward (Ted) - Age 85, of Dartmouth, passed away following a short illness on October 24, 2021 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Ted was a devoted husband and caring father and grandfather to his extended family. He loved to travel aboard ships, was an accomplished cook and vegetable gardener, loved country music and keeping on top of news and current events. Ted also loved to shop and was a master bargain hunter. In his later life, Ted lived to spoil his two English setters, first Hope and then Abby, with peanut butter sandwiches, cookies and treats, for which they were grateful. Born in Ottawa, Ont., he was a son of the late William and Beryl (Bulmer) Henbrey. As a young man, Ted joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served for 26 years. After many years serving onboard ships, he retired as a CPO2 (Engineer) in CFB Shearwater. His second career was as owner and operator of East Coast Pest Control. In his retirement, he loved going on cruises with his wife Susan, all over Europe, through the Mediterranean, to Hawaii and the Caribbean. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Abby. Ted is survived by his daughters, Diane Rose and Susan (Robert Wagner) Fleet; son, David (Eva); stepchildren, Brendan (Allison) and Debbie Nobes (Philip Lee); grandchildren, Amanda, Emma, Austin, Nicole, James, Eliza and Lucy. He is also survived by his sister, Marge Boyle. Ted was predeceased by his first wife, Amy (Rose) in 1997; and his second wife, Susan (Leroux Nobes) in 2020. Cremation has taken place. A private funeral service (invitation only) will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 30th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses on the 5th floor of the Dartmouth General.
