Janet McMillan Hart (née Mackay)

Died: 30 Jan 2016, White Rock, British Columbia

 

HART, Janet McMillan (née MACKAY) - wife of Alexander Hendry Hart, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2016, in White Rock, BC .

 

Janet was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on June 22, 1923. Janet is survived by her children Mary Clifford (Rod), Alexander (Inga), Colin (Trace), and John (Anne Marie), as well as grandchildren James, Douglas and Robert Clifford, Alexander, Catherine and Stéphanie Hart, and her favourite great grandson, Cameron Clifford Burns.

 

She was Head Girl of both Netherwood School in Rothesay, New Brunswick, and Havergal College, of Toronto. Upon graduation, Janet enlisted in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) where she served as a wireless telegraphist until the end of the War.

 

During her postwar studies at Dalhousie University, Janet met Alexander Hart, also a returning veteran. Married in 1948, she and Alex lived in Halifax, Montreal, Vancouver, London, England and finally on Dorcas Point, in BC. Janet enjoyed a distinguished career as a volunteer that spanned a period of over 70 years. One of Janet's greatest joys was her annual pilgrimage to the log cabin on the Long Reach beside the Saint John River.

 

Janet will be dearly missed by her friends and loved ones, and remembered for her grace, dignity and generous spirit.

 

Janet's funeral service will take place on February 6, 2016, at 11am in St Mary's Church, 2600 Powder Point Road, Nanoose Bay, B.C.

 

Special thanks are offered to the doctors, nurses and caregivers who allowed Janet a wonderful quality of life in her final days.
