JOHNSON, William Basil, AB, DEMS Gunner, 4708, RCN, MPK - 28 Mar 1943, SS LIVERPOOL LOYALIST - Son of Frank and Margaret Johnson, Vancouver, BC.
William Basil Johnson was born on 02 May 1923 in Gull Lake, SK to Frank and Margaret Johnson. He was a bookkeeper prior to enlisted and commenced active service on 15 Jul 1941. AB Johnson was lost at sea on 28 Mar 1943.
William Johnson, a gunner, was lost overboard from the steamer “Liverpool Loyalist”. No one saw the accident, but Johnson is supposed to have slipped on the icy deck and to have gone over the side of the ship. He was about 18 years of age and belonged to Vancouver, B. C. The Liverpool Loyalist was enroute from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Louisbourg at the time of the accident.
