LUFF, Mary (née GARNETT) - of Saint John, and formerly of Toronto, wife of the late Harold Luff, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Ridgewood Veteran's Centre. Born at Saint John on April 11, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Gilchrist and Kathleen (London) Garnett. Mary was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy Wrens. She loved flowers, especially the roses which she grew in her own garden, and in her younger years always enjoyed babysitting the neighbourhood children. Mary was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mary is survived by her children, Darryl Luff of Toronto, Ontario and Lorraine Luff of Thunder Bay, Ontario; sisters Rhoda Merrithew (Douglas) of Garnett Settlement and Doreen Eadle of Saint John; a brother, James "Sonny" Garnett of Saint John; an aunt, Christina "Teenie" Garnett of Saint John; an uncle, Wilfred "Garney" London of Toronto; as well as nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 3:00 PM from Brenan's Chapel. Interment will take place later in the Garnett Settlement Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society or the Ridgewood Comfort Fund would be appreciated by the family. A Royal Canadian Legion Veteran's Tribute Service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM from the funeral home. (The Telegraph-Journal 26 May 2010)
