WHITE, Marie Anne (née MURRAY) - passed away at the age of 92 on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Southwood Care Centre, Calgary. Marie Anne lived a remarkable life. She was born in London, Ontario to the late Helen Marie Murray and Dr. Thomas Francis Murray. Shortly after she was "bundled up" for a long train journey across Canada to Calgary and finally to Tsuu T'ina Nation Reserve (formerly the Sarcee Indian Reserve) where her father was the Medical Superintendent, Justice of the Peace and Indian Agent for the Sarcee Peoples. From age of eight onwards, she spent her summers roving her favourite Prairies at Sarcee and was educated at the Sacred Heart Convent in Calgary. In 1943 she enlisted in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) serving King and Country at home in Canada and overseas in Scotland. In 1946, on return from overseas, she began a 40-year career as an Administrative Assistant in Calgary's booming Oil and Gas sector, striving always to learn as much about the industry as she could. Upon her retirement in 1983 she began in earnest an active, energetic, and dedicated volunteer life participating in the Women's League of the Calgary Philharmonic, the Samaritan Club of Calgary, and the Anglican Church Women to name just a few. Throughout her life she baked thousands of cookies, muffins, cakes and pies to assist the working poor and those less fortunate around her. Natural wonders and all the Outdoors could offer were her passion throughout her long life. She always strove to learn as much as possible about the "wilderness" she loved. Marie Anne is survived by her loving daughter Barbara, her sister Patricia Prowse (Salt Spring, BC) and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada and England. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Clare Knoll in 2008. Friends and Family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church Calgary, 3602 - 8 Street S.W.  In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Mustard Seed Street Ministry, 102 - 11 Avenue S.E., Calgary or to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 - 110 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB, organizations Mom supported throughout her life. Many thanks for the wonderful care from the Carewest C3 Program which allowed her to live independently until August 2012. Special thanks for the care and compassion extended to my Mom in the last months of her life by the tireless staff at the Southwood Care Centre Evergreen Unit.
