NICOLL, Betty Iona (née PARCHER) - Died in Edmonton on July 9, 2003. Survived by her loving husband, Austin; son Dale of Victoria, B.C. (Dory) and grandsons Graeme and Ryan; son David of Edmonton (Elaine) and grandsons Devin and Tyler, sister Jean Hansen of Theodore, SK, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Melfort, SK, but was brought up and educated in Yorkton, SK. She joined the Womens Royal Canadian Navy Service during WWII, and was discharged in 1946. "Being a part of the senior service I will never forget, and would never have missed". Betty was a member of the X-Wren Association of Edmonton, which organized and hosted a successful reunion of X-Wrens in 2002, as well as celebrating the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Womens Royal Canadian Navy Service. Betty enjoyed and participated in square dancing for a great many years and was part of the committee which held the first Square and Round Dance Convention in Edmonton in 1978. Thanks are extended to all the caregivers at Norwood Palliative Centre who treated Betty with kindness and respect for so long a time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 10985 - 124 Street, Edmonton T5M 0H9, or The Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton T5G 1Z2. A Memorial Service will be held at Foster & McGarvey, 10008 - 103 Street, Edmonton on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Foster & McGarvey Limited, Funeral Directors and Licensed Crematorium, 428-6666.
