CALLARY, Thomas Edward (Eddy) - was born on 27 July 1919 in Outremont, Quebec, Canada.

He attended Loyola High School and Loyola College in Montreal until he enlisted in the navy in May 1941. He was called up in May 1942 and attended HMCS Royal Roads. He was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant at HMCS Kings in 1943 and served his entire career on HMCS OUTREMONT.

He retired from the navy in Nov. 1945 and married Nicole Vanderdonckt at the Loyola Chapel on 15 Oct 1946. They had three children: Stephen (1947) (Eva Bichlmeier), Andrew (1948) (Janet Leclerc) and Brigitte (1953) (John Eaves). Ed worked for Williams-Thomas, an outdoor advertising firm, first in Montreal and later in Quebec City, before eventually returning to Montreal in 1963. He spent the last 10 years of his career with Canada Post in marketing, retiring in 1984. In 2000, he moved from Outremont to Calgary, to be close to his daughter, where he died after a short illness on July 3, 2007 at the age of 87.

On 31 May 1947, Ed was asked to present the HMCS OUTREMONT ship's bell to the Town of Outremont at a ceremony in Saint Viateur Park that was attended by the municipal leaders and reported in the local media. He was interviewed by a reporter for the Montreal Star Herald and recounted his wartime memories of having participated in the North Atlantic and Murmansk Run. He mentioned HMCS OUTREMONT'S participation in Patrol EG 6 on 17 October 1944 and having taken 26 German crewmen from U-1006, including the Captain and two officers, on board after their submarine had been badly damaged and later sunk by HMCS ANNAN.

Ed was a keen sportsman and was a member of the boxing, hockey, football, baseball and skiing teams while in school. He remained an avid swimmer, golfer, cyclist and skier throughout his life.

He devoted himself to his children and grandchildren: Catherine, Christiane, Bettina, Eric and Erin . Sadly Ed did not live to know his great-gandchildren: Anneka, Owen, Julia and Alex.
