KLASSEN, Philipp - It is with profound sadness that Phil’s family announce his passing, after a long and courageous battle with PSP on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in Camp Hill Memorial Veterans Building. He was born September 9, 1939 in Winkler, MB the eldest son of the late Phillip Klassen and Susan Johnson (Rempel). Phil joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a teenager to see the world and during his 36 years of service he saw a lot of it. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Sheila (Paul), the love of his life, his best friend and soul mate, whom he met when they were both stationed in Shearwater, son Paul (Trudi), Smith Falls, ON, Daughter Wendy, Dartmouth, grandsons Travis and Logan, great-grand daughters Kiley, Ava and Daemia, his brothers Jack (Nellie), Abe and John (Margie). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Peter and sisters Susan and Marian.

Phil was a family man. He set a fine example for his children and grand-children. He guided them with love and understanding and was always supportive of their endeavours.

He was a true and reliable friend. Although he missed a lot of time with his children growing up while at sea, he had the joy of watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. In his retirement, he and Sheila enjoyed the many vacations in Hawaii, a trip to the UK to meet family, the time and miles they drove in their motor home, the many winters parked in Florida and the 27 years they have camped at South Mountain Park in the valley. This was their retreat for R&R where he could do what he wanted, when he wanted, and if he wanted. A time for reading, renewing friendships, catching up with family but there was always a grandson with them.

Visitation will be held Monday February 28, 2022 at A.L. Mattattall Funeral Home from 2:30-4:30pm and 6:30-830pm. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Special thank you to the staff of V4E Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Special thank you to Cheryl Ann, Tina, Beth, Nidi, Mary, Rhonda and Kiley, Food Services and Dorothy King, Social Worker.
