BUTROID, Arthur Wesley - Passed away June 26, 2004 at the age of 88 years. Arthur was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, son of British immigrants from Woombwell, England. He was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia and was a prominent member of the "Kitsilano Boys Band". He played French Horn with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16 years. After graduation from high school he joined the RCMP. He served with the Force in Ottawa, both as a member of the RCMP Musical Ride and the RCMP Band. He left the Force in 1943 when he married Marjorie Ethel Tyrrell. Arthur then joined the Navy and served in various capacities in Naval Intelligence rising to the rank of Commander, as Director, Security and Intelligence (Navy). He left the Navy in 1966 and joined the Dept. of Immigration as special advisor to the Prime Minister (Trudeau) and the Minister of Immigration on intelligence matters. He and his wife, Marjorie retired to Edmonton in 1978. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son Roger (Margot) of Head of St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, his daughter Barbara Van Vliet (Maury) and his two granddaughters, Kimberley and Samantha Sieben (Benjamin). His friends are wide spread and no other relatives exist. There will be no service. The family is planning a "Celebration of His Life" at a later date.
