BURROWS, Marie Louise - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Marie Burrows, age 92, of Dartmouth, on March 24, 2022. She was the oldest child of George and Mona Burrows, born in Halifax. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Bert Dickey; and her beloved niece, LuAnn Short; and is survived by sister, Joan Dickey; brother, Brian Burrows (Penny); nephews, Todd Dickey (Sharon Rushbrook), Mitchell Dickey (Shelley) and Greg Short; niece, Chrissy Frechette (Chris); great nieces, Taylor Rushbrook-Dickey (Matthew Bordian), Anna Sprange (Bryan), Bethany Dickey (Pawel Gorski), and great-nephews, Jordan Blaxland and Evan Blaxland (Amanda LeMoine); and all of the extended families. Marie was fiercely independent with strong ties to her career and family. Early on, Marie’s intelligence, strength of character and resolve became evident while in school, and certainly later as an award-winning WREN reservist in the Royal Canadian Navy’s Women's Naval Service. Her professional career began with Metropolitan Life in the early 1950’s in Halifax and then Edmonton, and in 1958 she joined Libby, McNeill & Libby in Dartmouth, and progressed through increasingly senior management roles with Libby’s and Nestlé over the following 35 years. Upon her retirement in 1993 she became a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society’s Dartmouth chapter where she remained as a key member for 18 years. Marie loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Europe and numerous cruises with friends and family. In keeping with her commitment to her community and a family tradition of helping others, her remains have been donated to Dalhousie Medical School to help further the studies and advances in medical science. We invite you to a celebration of Marie’s life on Sunday, April 3rd from 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
