ST. GERMAIN , Joseph Henri Victor - It is with great sorrow we announce on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Victor passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81 years. Victor was born July 2, 1940 at home at 375 Deschambault Street in St. Boniface to Frédéric St. Germain and Céleste (née Chartier). Vic was predeceased by his son Richard on January 13, 2022, his wife Eleanor in May 2013, his siblings, Suzanne and her husband Maurice Prince, Marie-Jeanne and her son Donald St. Germain, Pierrette (Penny) Doucet, his brother-in-law Donald Hunter and his parents, Frédéric and Céleste. He is survived by his significant other Avelina Bensi, his daughters, Lauri St. Germain and Dianne Haines (Malcolm), his granddaughters, Megan and Daria, his sister Yvonne Hunter and numerous nieces and nephews. From Lauri's birth in 1963 to the twin's arrival in 1971, Vic was a proud father who enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of auto mechanics, construction, outdoor skills, etc. Vic began employment with CN Railway from 1956 at the Main Street Station as an Apprentice Electrician, moving to Symington Yard and then Transcona Shops with a well-deserved retirement in July 1994 although he continued consulting for CNR for several years. He was industrious and always seemed to have a second or third job on the go. Trains were in his blood - retirement had Vic volunteering countless hours with the boys at the Assiniboine Valley Railway, bringing Christmas joy to thousands over the years. Vic was well-travelled - starting with a stint in the Panama Canal with the Canadian Naval Reserves, multiple trips to visit family in the US and Quebec, Newfoundland, Cuba, Mexico, Cayman Islands, England, Thailand, Philippines as well as closer to home - the St. Germain cottage on the Winnipeg River near Lake of the Woods. Vic was a man of many talents, replacing the original St. Germain cottage at Albert Beach with a beautiful A-Frame structure with the Hunters and then his second cottage build was Dufresne Island where everyone was welcome for fishing, boating, waterskiing, campfires, etc. A joint Celebration of Life for Victor and his son Richard will be held on Sunday, June 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the family home. For details please contact family members. (The Winnipeg Free Press 25 Jul 2022)
