WALSH, Jerome (Jerry) - Age 79 years of Halifax. With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, grandpa and dear friend Jerome “Jerry” at home on May 27, 2022. Born in Halifax on November 9, 1942; he was the eldest son of the late Helena (Scallion) and Graham Walsh. Jerry retired as a Warehouse Supervisor with CFB Halifax dockyard 24 years ago. Prior to his time with DND, Jerry served in the Royal Canadian Navy, worked as a Longshorman at the Halifax & Toronto Waterfront and spent 5 years as an Architectural Planner with the town of Mississauga. He enjoyed dancing, reading, darts and especially relaxing at his country property in Chaswood. He was a member of the Forever Young at Heart Club. Jerry was a 15-year volunteer for the Help Line in Halifax, a trained Suicide Intervention specialist and a drug and addictions counsellor. He was also a Cub Leader in Chaswood. Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy, sons Jerome (Laurie), Lloyd (Bernadette), Nathan (Lola); siblings Gerald (Edna), Marilyn (Buchan), Harold (Carmina), Edmund (Bev), Graham (Heather), Raymond (Betty), Gerard (Sue), Joseph (Jane); grandchildren Kyle, Allyssa, McKenzie, Julia, Victoria; and favourite cousins Pat Brown and Gennie Bowen. He is reunited in Heaven with sisters Aileen McNutt and Jacinta Morin. A true gentleman and man of integrity, he will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held at the Atlantic Funeral Home (6552 Bayers Road, Halifax) on Thursday, June 2nd from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. The Funeral Service will take place at the Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax Chapel on Friday, June 3rd at 11am, followed by a reception. Interment to take place at the Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Lower Sackville. The Walsh family wish to express our deepest gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit (Cindy Bell), the VON, and our supportive long-time family physician Dr. Hugh Matheson. Donations can be made in memory of Jerry to the Canadian Liver Foundation to help raise funds towards a cure for liver cancer. (Saltwire Network 30 May 2022)
