BLAQUIERE, John - After a brief illness, it is with deep sadness that the family of John Blaquiere announces his passing on July 14, 2000 at the Concordia Hospital at age 86. Left to cherish his memory are his special friend and companion Carol Moulin; his children, Gilbert, Lawrence (Dolores), Roland (Janice), Beatrice; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as sisters, Melvina, Corinne and Rosie. He was predeceased by his son Darold, grandson Chad, brothers "Babe" and Gus, and sister Mary. John was employed as a painter for the C.N.R. for 36 years. From 1939 to 1945 he served with the Royal Canadian Navy and was an active member of the Chief and Petty Officers Assoc. He was a life member of the Transcona Royal Canadian Legion #7, which was his second home. He spent many happy years at his cottage in Malachi, Ont. with his family and friends. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. J. Ormiston and the nursing staff on the 3rd floor at Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. (Winnipeg Free Press 16 Jul 2000)
