SMITH, George James - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, George James Smith on September 3, 2022 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn Smith (Bressette) and loving father of son George Stanley (Valerie) and daughter Judy. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all of his grandchildren.

He served 20 years with the Royal Canadian Navy and retired as First Class Petty Officer (Ship's Yeoman). Serving on many of the ships, beginning in the early 1950's with the Haida, he was a dedicated, proud Navy man through and through and loved reminiscing about those early years especially with his children and grandchildren. After retiring from the service, he was employed by Canada Post at the Halifax Stanfield Airport before retiring fully to the Village of Tatamagouche where he and Mom followed another dream, a retirement farm.

Dad always had a smile and a sense of humor for everyone he met. He was a very independent man, and at the age of 92 would make his daily trip to the Chowder House for an early dinner and a chuckle with the staff, and was still volunteering at Willow Lodge for Friday night bingo. Volunteering was such a joy for him, knowing that he was helping in some small way. Dad lived his life his way and now he rests peacefully with the #1 love of his life that he has missed so dearly.

Our family would like to extend our appreciation to Dr. Bush for his care and concern over the years and to the staff of the Emergency Department and E3 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. We send a special heart felt thank you to the people of Tatamagouche as you have never failed to have huge hearts and open arms.

Graveside Service will be held Monday, September 12 at 2pm in Forest Hills Cemetery, Denmark. No reception will follow as per Dad's wishes. Any donations in his name may be made to Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche. Arrangements are under the direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
