Joseph Marcel Guy Lafranchise, C.D.

Lieutenant (Navy), C.A.F. (Navy)

Died: 22 Sep 2022, Saint John, New Brunswick

LAFRANCHISE, Joseph Marcel Guy - Known to all as Guy, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, New Brunswick, on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the age of 71, after a brief illness. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Guy was the son of both the late Lucien and Denise (Pelland) Lafranchise.

Guy, at the age of 17, joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He went on to serve a distinguished career as not only a Submariner in the Canadian Navy, but also as a Halifax Police Officer, a Federal Fisheries officer, and a Senior Enforcement Officer - Wildlife Trade, with Environment Canada, Moncton, NB. Guy retired with 35 years of service, but wasn't ready to settle down yet. His adventures continued with contract work in Kenya and Congo to train and instruct local wildlife enforcement officers.

Throughout his career, he was recognized with several awards, including the Governor General's Service Award for Federal Peace Officers. Guy's passions were hunting, fishing, travelling, and enjoying life to the fullest - never without his Tilley hat.

Guy is survived by his soulmate, Joanne Breneol of Lower Greenwich, New Brunswick; brother, Andre Lafranchise (Dawn); sister, Louise Deschamps (Robert); brothers-in-law, Paul Breneol (Mary-Ellen Vaughn), Michael Breneol (Samantha), and sister-in-law Lori Breneol. He also had many nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and loving cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Modern Celebrations & Cremations. A gathering to celebrate Guy's life will be hosted at the Kingswood Lodge Greenbrier Room, Fredericton, NB, on October 23, 2022, from 1 pm - 4 pm in his honour. All are welcome to join the family when they can, and a microphone will be available to share stories.

The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to the Friends of the Magnetic Hill Zoo charity in Guy's name.

Lastly, the family wishes to thank everyone who knew, loved, and supported Guy - Not only during his time of brief illness, but also throughout his entire vibrant life. Thank you for supplying him with every wonderful memory he carries with him on his next adventures. (The Saltwire Network 27 Sep 2022)
