WHARTON, Leonard Arthur, AB A/SD, V27329, RCNVR, MPK - 11 Sep 1942, HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN - Son of Freeman John and Alice (nee Whiles) Wharton, of Toronto, Ontario. Brother of Cecil Stanley Wharton who died while serving with the Canadian Grenadier Guards.

 

AB Wharton died when HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN was torpedoed by a u-boat in the St. Lawrence River and sunk. His body was never found.

TORONTO DIVISION RCNVR - Enlisted 06 Jun 1941. Commenced Active Service 16 Jun 1941

HMCS KAMLOOPS - Served in KAMLOOPS - 22 Feb 1942 - 27 Feb 1941 while in training at RCN BARRACKS HALIFAX

* Qualified and Rated A/SD 07 Mar 1942

HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN - Drafted to CHARLOTTETOWN 23 Mar 1942 as an OS, RCNVR.  Rated AB 16 Jun 1942.
